Here are some steps on how to stuff a Kong
Choose the right size Kong
Kong toys come in different sizes, so make sure to choose the right size for your dog’s breed and size.
- The KONG Classic comes in sizes from XS to XXL
- The Kong Extreme is the most durable one, made for Power Chewers and comes in sizes from small to XXL
- The KONG Puppy comes in different sizes and baby blue and baby pink
- The KONG Senior is a durable Dog Toy for Older Dogs with gentle, natural Rubber and comes in small, medium and large
Choose the filling
You can fill a Kong toy with a variety of foods, such as peanut butter, yogurt, cream cheese, canned dog food, or even pieces of fruit or vegetables. Make sure the food is safe for dogs to eat and avoid foods that can be harmful, such as chocolate, grapes, or onions.
Prepare the filling
Mix the filling ingredients together in a bowl or use a blender to create a smooth consistency. You can also use a spoon to stuff chunky fillings into the Kong.
Stuff the Kong
Hold the Kong toy upright and fill it with the mixture using a spoon or a pastry bag. You can also use a butter knife to spread the filling around the inside of the Kong.
Stuffing Game Changer Tools
I highly recommend to get a Stopple® (see video below and pic) that makes the stuffing so much easier (and way less of a mess). You can get them from Paws in Earnest (a great UK small business and inventor of the original ones | Code BOSCHPUPS for a Discount). If you’re in the States, you can also get them from SodaPup (Code BULLYCO for a Discount).
And to make it even easier, I’d also recommend the Plunger from No Fuss Fill (another amazing small UK business). They seriously have been a game changer for me – making stuffing super easy and mess free! You’ve probably seen them around loads on my YouTube channel. They now also come in an eco version (pictured), what I totally l love.
Freeze the Kong
For a longer-lasting treat, freeze the Kong toy after stuffing it. Place it in the freezer for several hours, or overnight.
Give the Kong to your dog
Once the Kong is frozen, give it to your dog to enjoy. Your dog will need to lick, chew, and work to get the filling out of the Kong, providing mental stimulation and entertainment.
It’s important to supervise your dog while they’re enjoying their Kong toy and to make sure that the Kong toy is not too small and doesn’t pose a choking hazard. You can also adjust the filling and level of difficulty based on your dog’s preferences and experience with Kong toys.
