Every dog has – just like us humans – a certain amount of ‘stress’ they can tolerate. To keep our pups safe, we need to understand their capacity for stress, what can actually be ‘classified as stress’ and when our dogs are over threshold. Let me introduce the concept of a dog’s stress bucket to make it tangible and how it can affect our dog’s overall well-being.
What’s a (Dog’s) Stress Bucket?
The stress bucket is a metaphorical container that holds all of a dog’s daily stressors, including physical and emotional challenges, environmental changes, and other life stressors. The bucket is basically the amount of stress your dog can tolerate before it overflows. When the stress bucket is full, your dog can become anxious, fearful, or even aggressive.
In this video, we’ll explore the concept of a dog’s stress bucket and how we can use canine enrichment, training and active rest to empty it. By providing enrichment and passive calming activities, we can help our dogs release pent-up energy and reduce stress, leading to a happier and healthier pup.
This video is part of my Canine Enrichment Online Course, which offers a comprehensive guide to enriching your dog’s life. The course covers a wide range of topics, including the different types of enrichment, how to create an enrichment plan, and how to adapt activities to your dog’s individual needs.
