Fostering a dog is a compassionate and impactful way to help rescue dogs in need. It provides temporary shelter, care, and love to dogs who may have experienced abandonment, neglect, or trauma. If you’re interested in learning how fostering a dog works, this blog post will guide you through the process, step by step. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a personal note, I have been a foster dog mom too and it’s such a beautiful, rewarding experience. Many people say “I couldn’t foster, I’d keep them all” or “It would break my heart”. It might hurt to let them go – but there is not much filling your heart more than seeing your foster dog finding their forever family and getting all the love and the attention they deserve. I still get updates and pics from my foster dogs family and they fill me with so much joy. And fostering helps ‘make room’ for more dogs to get saved. Especially experienced foster homes are urgently needed in the current shelter crisis we currently find ourselves in. Way too many dogs ‘get dumped’ and quite frankly failed by humans. Kill shelters using euthanasia to ‘make room’ – so even if your heart might ache a little, it’s a small sacrifice to make a big difference. And if you can’t or don’t want to foster yourself, please become an advocate, spread the word and help educate others. Even simply following, liking and\/or sharing rescue organisations posts can already help. Small acts of kindness go a long way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be prepared to answer questions about your living situation, experience with dogs, and availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: Attend Orientation and Training<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Once your application is approved, you’ll likely be required to attend an orientation or training session. This training will provide you with valuable information about the organisation’s policies, procedures, and expectations for foster parents.
