Learn to Lead your Dog with Heart & Mind
Hi, I’m Stephanie — a dog trainer, enrichment enthusiast, and proud dog mom to four incredible dogs. This blog is where I share compassionate, science-based tips to help dogs (and their humans!) live better lives together.
About Me: Stephanie – The Heart & Mind Behind Enrich Your Dog's Life
Hello! I’m Stephanie, and I’m thrilled you’re here. My journey to becoming a games-based, positive reinforcement dog trainer specialising in rescue dogs and bully breeds wasn’t a straight path. Before dedicating my life to helping dogs and their humans thrive, I spent 10 years in corporates and six years running my own business as a leadership consultant, public speaker, and executive coach. That chapter taught me invaluable lessons about communication, empathy, consistency, and building strong relationships – principles I now passionately apply to dog training.
My "Why": A Personal Mission
My mission at Enrich Your Dog’s Life stems directly from my own experiences. I’m a proud dog mum to four incredible rescue dogs, each with their own unique story and needs.
Meet the Real Stars Behind the Blog
This blog is a team effort — and I couldn’t do it without my four amazing dogs. They’re not just my companions; they’re my daily inspiration, my enrichment testers, and constant reminders of why thoughtful training and care matter so much. Here’s a quick intro to the crew:
Rambo — My OG and the heart of the home. A nearly 13-year-old Staffy/Amstaff mix, he’s the Chief Happiness Officer around here. Full of love, wisdom, and the best wiggly butt in town. Adopting this sweet boy aged 6 has changed my life and I couldn’t have wished for a better pup to start this multi-dog household. And why I’m a massive cheerleader for adopting lovely senior dogs!
Big A — My gentle giant, profoundly loyalty and exempt XL Bully (he’s actually a classic American Bully but falls under the ban). He’s a soft soul who carries everything he loves: enrichment toys, shoes, slow feeder bowls, and sometimes, my heart. Big on snuggles, bigger on charm.
Living with an exempt, muzzle wearing Bully Breed, helps me understand the stigma and judgment fellow bully breed owners face and the importance of advocating for them against unfair stereotypes (and navigating the UK bully ban!). And also helping their humans to manage their own anxiety and emotional overwhelm of being judged on a daily basis.
Panda — The brains and the bounce. As the only girl and an Arabian Village Dog, she’s a whirlwind of drive, determination, and smarts. Toys don’t stand a chance when Panda’s on the case. She has a high prey drive and is a ‘typical’ primitive breed. She has taught me so, so much about training free-roaming ‘wild’ dogs and helps me a lot when I speak to our adopters.
Chalkie — Another Arabian Village Dog, Chalkie is deaf and highly anxious — but also incredibly sweet. His journey teaches me patience, empathy, and the power of slow, trust-building work. Chalkie was the main reason I decided to dive really deep into understanding dog behaviour and embrace dog enrichment.
Living with this diverse pack (complete with anxious tendencies and joyful chaos!) means I don’t just teach these methods – I live them every single day. I understand the overwhelm, the breakthroughs, and the deep love that drives every dog parent.
My Philosophy: Leading Your Dog with Heart & Mind
My training approach is built on the belief that the most effective way to work with your dog is through collaboration, not coercion. This isn’t about dominance; it’s about respectful partnership. My ‘Leading Your Dog with Heart & Mind’ framework guides everything I do:
- Clarity & Communication: Learning to “speak dog” and provide clear, consistent guidance.
- Compassion & Connection: Building an unbreakable bond based on trust, empathy, and positive reinforcement.
- Calming & Confidence: Strategies for managing stress and anxiety (for both dogs and their humans!) and fostering true resilience.
- Consistency & Commitment: The dedication to show up for your dog, every single day, celebrating every step of their unique journey.
This holistic approach means we look at your dog’s individual needs, their past experiences, and your unique lifestyle. I bring a non-judgmental, understanding perspective to every challenge, ensuring you feel supported, not shamed.
Who I Help
I specialise in empowering guardians of rescue dogs and bully breeds, particularly those who:
- Are bringing a new rescue dog home and want to start off right (the 3-3-3 rule and decompression are key!).
- Have anxious, fearful, or reactive dogs seeking calm and confidence.
- Are navigating the unique world of Middle Eastern street dogs (Omani Wadi Dogs) adjusting to life abroad.
- Own Bully breeds and want to break stigmas, manage their strength, and train responsibly (especially in light of the UK XL Bully ban).
- Need support for senior dogs or those with special needs (like deafness).
- Live in multi-dog households and seek harmony.
- Are busy individuals or neurodivergent dog parents looking for clear, low-friction training strategies that truly work.
10 Things I Believe About Dogs (And Humans)
- There’s no such thing as a “problem dog.”
There are dogs with unmet needs, misunderstood behaviours, and more baggage than a Ryanair holiday in July. I see them. I get them. I help them. - A “small win” is a big win.
That tail wag. That treat taken outside. That time they didn’t bark at a leaf. Celebrate it like it’s a damn gold medal. Because it is. - You’re allowed to cry about it.
The shame. The judgement. The bone-deep exhaustion. You’re not too sensitive — this is hard. - You don’t need to be the alpha.
I mean… the whole dominance thing was debunked before TikTok even existed. Your dog isn’t trying to take over your house — they’re trying to feel safe in it. What they need isn’t control, it’s co-regulation. That’s where the leadership is. - No one talks about how lonely this can be.
Especially when you’re the only one trying, Googling at 2am, or sitting in the park with a dog too scared to move. I won’t let you stay alone in that. - Healing happens in relationships.
Dog and human. Nervous system to nervous system. It’s not linear. But it is powerful. - You can’t train away fear.
But you can build trust. Safety. Choice. Connection. And when that happens? The magic starts. - Your dog doesn’t need to be perfect to be loved.
Neither do you. - Progress doesn’t always look pretty.
Sometimes it looks like wearing yesterday’s socks, bribing your dog with cheese, and crying in your car because he sniffed a stranger’s hand. - This life isn’t for everyone.
But for the ones who stay? For the ones who love the complicated, reactive, never-going-to-a-pub-together dogs?
You’re my people.
